Stream key & RTMP FAQ

Are the stream key and RTMP URL the same thing?

No. The RTMP URL (or 'server URL') is the address you send video to — it is the same for everyone on a platform. The stream key is your private, unique token that tells the platform the stream belongs to your channel. You need both, and you should never share your stream key.

How do I get my YouTube stream key?

Open YouTube Studio, click Create → Go live, and choose the Stream tab. Your stream key is shown there under 'Stream settings'. Click to reveal and copy it, along with the Stream URL (rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2).

Where do I find my RTMP URL?

It is listed in your platform's live/streaming settings next to the stream key. For YouTube it is rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2, for Twitch rtmp://live.twitch.tv/app, and for Facebook rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp/. Kick and custom platforms give you a personal URL.

Do I combine the RTMP URL and stream key into one link?

Some software wants a single URL (server + '/' + key); others, including StreamZop, take the server URL and the stream key in separate fields. Keep them separate when a tool asks for two fields — that is the safer, standard way.

My stream key is not working — what is wrong?

The usual causes are pasting the RTMP URL into the key field (or vice versa), an extra space, or an expired/reset key. Reveal and re-copy the key from your platform, make sure the URL and key are in the right fields, and try again.

Where do I paste these in StreamZop?

When you create a stream in StreamZop, paste the RTMP/Server URL in the RTMP URL field and the stream key in the Stream key field. StreamZop then keeps your video live 24/7 to that destination from the cloud.
